Mixed media: bubbling champagne

Someone rightly said .. " To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong"

It was this fear that kept me away from blogging my work for so long ..

But... I figured that it was high time to let go of this .. and concentrate on creating the best that I can. For craft, and learning is a never ending road and journey. There is never a time when you stop and say that I've learned enough.

Creative inspiration comes to us from every side.. One such inspiration for me is #Finnabair.
My idol. I simply love her work and thanks to Shalini Mittal's crafty feast .. I got to learn from the master herself.. Anna Dabrowska.

So.. I made this piece using all Finnabair products... and it's surprising what beautiful effects Metallique paints and waxes can have on your work.

The concept of an engagement being celebrated, but not in traditional colors. Life being lived but yet in their own values and beliefs . Bubbling champagne representing love and dreams and hopes ...  Hence the wings on various bubbles.

Mixed media is like magic waiting to happen ... three dimensional and Oh! so amazing ....

The whole canvas was first painted using black Gesso,
I added  embellishments and champagne glasses and various other bits and pieces,
I also used bubble wrap and straws to give it a little more interest. It was all glued down with the Heavy body gel and left overnight to dry.

I then proceeded to cover the whole thing with another layer of black Gesso.

My last step was to add final accents and contrast to my project... For this I used Acrylic spark paints in Raven black and Dragon's eye and the final touches came with Art alchemy Metallique wax in Aged Brass and Antique brilliance in Red Amber.
It was Amazing to see how the beautiful colors and shades showed up on the black Gesso.

I simply love my new mediums, paints and waxes…. The results were quite fascinating :)

would love to hear your thoughts :),
happy crafting till then :)

lots of love:)

Mesmerized in pink

Someone rightly said .. That if you truly believe, it is only then that you can find magic :)…
And at the moment, I can only say that everything around me seems to be sparkling with love and magic… as if generous amounts of fairy dust was sprinkled all around .

Thus, the magic and glitter is mirroring in my work this time.

I made another mixed media journal ..  (my mixed media obesession continues).

I created the background using pink archival ink and a stencil from TCS …  no background I think is complete without generous sprays from my favorite lindy's .. the generous amounts of shimmer in their starburst sprays .. makes every background unbelievably pretty.

I created my own embellishments  using some stamps, dies .. glitter balls and UTEE and also used some metal embellishments from my stash .I just love how the different elements came together .

I created a little bit of drama by heat embossing and using mica flakes in the background..
the pearls and the birds just lifted all the elements up:).

The diamond dust , made my flowers shimmer and sparkle.. a dazzling effect indeed.

I loved how it finally turned out in the end:)…

would love to hear what you guys think:).

A tryst with dark romance

So, this time I decided to do something entirely different from my usual style of work.
My work which is normally always leaning towards shabby chic victorian with a hint of vintage mixed in …. saw a lil bit darkness this time around.

I decided to try my hand at a mixed media canvas …

I got my hands on a bottle of black gesso and crackle paste from prima - texture paste copper crackle (Art extravagance) and black gesso (prima - art basics)… so decided to give them a try and do my first ever canvas :)…. A tryst with dark romance :)…

And obviously … none of my  mixed media projects are ever complete without some generous doses of my favorite starburst sprays from Lindy's.

I love love love these sprays .. They make sure that no matter what … your project will always turn out absolutely stunning.

So, here we go… some closeups of the canvas … so that the details can be seen and the final canvas:).

Don't you simply love the effects of the texture paste and black gesso :)

The Final canvas …:)..

I simply love my new mediums and texture pastes :)…. The results were quite fascinating :)

would love to hear your thoughts :),
happy crafting till then :)

A new year :) … And some timeless treasure's

So 2015 is officially here :)…  A new year means new beginnings, new resolutions and a clean slate .. With the hope that we can fill this new year with happy memories and lots and lots of laughter and fun.

so.. I decided to write my first blog post of the year about a collection that is very very close to my heart as a lot of time, effort and energy was invested in it.

I called this collection 'borrowed time'

This collection of boxes and trays was very victorian inspired - hence, the pattern paper on these decoupaged boxes was also conceptualized and designed by us. I say 'us' because this collection would not have been possible without the help that I got from my elder sister:)… we're a team:).

It represents  a time when letters were painstakingly written to loved one's ..  When feelings were not restricted to one line messages but written in prose. A collection symbolizing timelessness and love..

A collection - conceptualized, Handmade, decoupaged and hand painted with love.

These trinket boxes and trays are such magical things .. :) they make the best gifts and immediately brighten up any space in the house.

For gifts need not have a special occasion:)….   And if they're handmade..  it makes the gift even more special :).

I hope some decoupaging inspiration was given by this post :)

lots of love,
Vrinda :)

Mixed Media Canvas - Mystical Flutterings

 Hey Guy's :)

Someone has rightly said …. "good art is not what it looks like, but what it does to us".
And that's so true isn't it :)…. crafting and art are therapeutic which almost always stir up unknown feelings from inside us.

Today, I am sharing A mixed media canvas which is very close to my heart…. as it signifies, that no matter what the world throw at us … how dark our world seems to be, we shall always have butterflies:)… And blooming flowers.

The butterflies always invoke a sense of hope and some sunshine in our lives.

This is a 18" x 12" canvas, which is layered with lots and lots of paints and sprays to give it depth.

The butterflies are hand painted with acrylic paints.

I started the background by adhering some pattern paper from my stash, and then painting it with Gesso…. I have then stenciled on some details and added my mdf embelishments.

The best bit about mixed media projects is that I get to do a lot of stenciling and experimenting with modeling paste, medium gels and various embellishments till I am satisfied with the result.

The whole canvas is then sprayed with layers and layers of color using my favorite Lindy's stamp gang sprays… I sprayed with my mists till I achieved the vibrance of colors that I liked.

For this project I have used:  sweet violet poppy teal
                                              Mission bells brown
                                              Hydrangea Blue
                                              Canna lily burnt orange
                                              yellow rose of texas
After my canvas dried up completely .. I added my hand painted butterflies and the white roses with quilled green leaves :).

I finished off my canvas with a sentiment that says - "For butterflies shall never seize to fly". Coz that was the whole feeling behind my canvas :).

Lowed how it all got together so beautifully in the end.

Some close up pictures .. So that the texture at the back of my butterflies can be seen :)..

The final Canvas:)

My secret garden :)

Another wall clock :)....

This time .... I have a full blown story that totally made my clock what it is :).

I like to call it my secret garden timepiece.
The idea is that on the right there are birds in a cage and on the left the birds are free .....  A juxtaposition that love can either bind us or set us completely free.

And another.... Where from a cage, you can just hope and wish for freedom.
The beauty lies in the subtle texturing at the back and the positioning of the flowers around the dial :)....

Thus, my secret garden ... Wall clock.

Though there is a very evident flaw in this creation of mine ....  :)
Can u figure it out :)????

Art Journal - " believe in your dreams"

There are days, when you just have to remind yourself to believe in your dreams... to believe that the world is a beautiful place and that art is what make's this world worth living in :)

So... This time I decided to make myself an art journal..  precisely to remember all those things that I just mentioned.

Modelling paste , stencils, Lindy's sprays ... continue to be my ever faithful companions .. while working on mixed media projects :)

The butterfly is hand drawn and colored in with my beautiful set of
Derwent water color pencils.

I added some heat embossing details and finished off with A sentiment .. That exactly conveyed ... what I was thinking :)

"Believe in your dreams"
